Reynolds Renovations | Matching Paint Colors

You certainly never want to repair a paint job or add a piece that needs painting to an already-painted room and wind up with different shades! There are a few ways to match colors so that this doesn’t happen.

Hand & Eye Selecting

First, you can cut out a sample from a paper catalog and hold it up to the existing paint. You might have to cut out a sample more than once to find the right shade, but you can always just take the sample to the paint store and say, “Go!” Most paint supply companies have the ability to scan your paint color and match it as close as possible. While certain brands of paint might not always come out the same, you can get very close. It is important to know whether you are dealing with interior or exterior paint as well as matte, flat, eggshell, or gloss. Matching paint colors can be tricky, but it is possible to do.

There’s An App For That

You can also use electronic color matcher. This is a device that scans any surface for color and then processes the scan to create the right shade. When you use electronic color matcher, it pairs with a paint matching app to give you the right shade. Then, you can email the finished scan to a paint company for a perfect match.

It could be fun to “test your eye” to see how close you came to the actual color with your samples. The paint matching app, however, makes things easy enough that many people dispense with the sample book. After your best guess, head on over to the paint store. They can match (with near perfection) almost any color.

Most paint stores have a fairly accurate method for paint matching. Letting the pros handle the color matching is our favorite option.  To schedule a paint project or for a free bid, give Reynolds Renovations, Tulsa Painting Experts a call anytime.
